IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center, part of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, operates the most powerful computing infrastructure in Czechia — the Karolina supercomputer (15.7 petaflops, installed 2021) and Barbora (849 teraflops, installed 2019), alongside a dedicated NVIDIA DGX-2 system for AI computation. In September 2025, IT4Innovations inaugurated VLQ, Czechia’s first quantum computer and only the second launched anywhere in Europe, operated through the LUMI-Q consortium. In April 2026, the centre presented pilot results for the Czech Quantum Communication Infrastructure (CZQCI) — a secure quantum backbone network connecting Ostrava to Prague and Brno — at a ceremonial launch attended by European Union representatives, government agencies, and international research consortia. IT4Innovations also coordinates the Czech AI Factory as part of the EU’s LUMI AI Factory network, and in February 2026 launched the Q-Neko project, a joint supercomputing and quantum technology collaboration between European and Japanese research organisations.
